Southbank Centre is a unique arts centre with 21 acres of creative space and an extraordinary history, located in the heart of London's thriving cultural quarter. The year-long, vibrant arts programme of music, dance, literature, performance and visual arts happens inside and outside three iconic buildings: Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall and The Hayward.
AOC
AOC was established in 2003 by Tom Coward, Daisy Froud,
Vincent Lacovara and Geoff Shearcroft. Building on experience gained at respected
practices and regeneration bodies in London and abroad, our architecture
is both robustly pragmatic and beautifully imaginative. We embrace challenging
projects and encourage clients to be demanding,
generating open, honest, generous proposals in response.
Interested by the ways in which other forces and factors,
besides architects, shape places, we are committed to delivering projects
that fully engage with and respond to the context - social, environmental
and political - in which they are set. We approach projects through
rigorous dialogue and research, enjoying and exploring the participation
of others at every stage - while building the brief, during construction,
and throughout occupation - believing that a broader conversation creates
a richer and more bespoke end product.
Recent work includes the completion of the Janet Summers
Early Years Centre, two first-placed housing schemes in the Elephant and
Castle regeneration project, a winning master-design for 400 homes in South
London, an urban regeneration game for Building Futures/ RIBA and CABE, and
the Lift, a demountable performance and meeting space
opening on London's South Bank in 2008.
We were winners in the AJ/Corus ‘40 under 40’, runners up in the UK Young Architect of the Year 2005 and featured in the Observer’s ‘Best and the Brightest: Hot List 2005’. We have taught at many of the leading schools of architecture, regularly lecture in UK and Europe and contribute to television, radio and public debates. Our work has been internationally published and exhibited in leading museums and galleries in the UK, Europe and USA.
